Our Story
Urban Ice Botanicals was founded more than 20 years ago by Kelly Dunn, who first encountered kratom, Mitragyna speciosa, while traveling through Indonesia. After seeing its traditional use in Southeast Asian communities, he recognized the need for responsible and transparent access in the United States. This experience became the foundation for his work with Urban Ice Botanicals, where he helped build one of the first quality-focused kratom distribution operations in the country.
As the industry grew, Kelly became a strong advocate for kratom education, research, and consumer access. He supported the initial University of Florida kratom research led by Dr. Chris McCurdy, which later received a $3.5 million federal grant from the National Institute on Drug Abuse and contributed to more than 190 published studies. Kelly is also recognized in the American Kratom Association Advocate Hall of Fame Legacy Class and received the inaugural Champion for Kratom Science Award for his early support of kratom research.
Kelly also backed A Leaf of Faith, a documentary that helped increase public awareness of kratom across the United States. Urban Ice Botanicals later gained national visibility through The Joe Rogan Experience, including discussions that helped introduce many consumers to the benefits of quality-focused kratom products. For more than two decades, my mission has been to protect responsible access to kratom while raising the standards for quality, transparency, and consumer safety. I founded Urban Ice Botanicals after first encountering kratom, Mitragyna speciosa, in Indonesia and seeing its long history of traditional use in Southeast Asian communities. Since then, I have supported early kratom research at the University of Florida and produced A Leaf of Faith to raise honest public awareness of this plant.
